Launching a brand new church comes with a unique set of challenges. How do you introduce yourself to a community before you’ve had a chance to build a reputation? Abide Church was planted in Oceanside, California with a goal of bringing abiding life transformation through unapologetic preaching, prayer and confident faith.
Abide Church is affiliated with Send Network, the official church planting arm of the North American Mission Board, which means they’re no stranger to hard work and intentional care. Their visual church brand needed to reflect that same spirit.
Their culture sits at the intersection of skaters and surfers. They also wanted to weave in the truths found in John 15 about abiding in Christ, who is known as the Vine. This resulted in a custom word mark centered around a distinct “A” that features a leaf woven through the lettering.
“Not every church brand gets inspired by skate and surf culture. This one did! Creating the illustrations and custom “A” icon was a blast—and a nice break from the New England winter outside my window.”
Successful Google font pairings like Eagle Lake and Overpass feel handcrafted and slightly vintage. They’re laid back to help reinforce the work boots and surfer vibes, but highly legible and practical without feeling sterile. These are going to really pop on church way finding signs!
New church plants only have a few seconds to make a first impression online, through social media, or even in the community itself. A well-thought out church logo design can help establish identity from day one. Whether you’re planting a church, rebranding an existing congregation, or launching a new ministry altogether, Bright Coal would love to help create an affordable, visual brand that serves well. Let’s launch something together!
