Christmas Planning for Churches & Why to Start Earlier than you Think

PROJECT CLIENT: FELLOWSHIP OF MONTGOMERY

PROJECT TYPE: EVENT & HOLIDAY LOGO DESIGN

LEAD DESIGNER: RACHEL BAKER

Christmas is bigger than a normal Sunday.

The entire season can feel like the Super Bowl of church communications with multiple events and dozens of moving pieces in an already busy time of year. The holidays have a way of sneaking up on us every year. You’re likely hosting multiple activities and trying to communicate to different audiences, so perhaps a little visual intentionality can go a long way.

For Fellowship of Montgomery, they wanted to stop reinventing the holiday spirit year after year. For many churches, branding church Christmas artwork or building an entirely new visual direction each year is a repetitive process that takes energy away from actual planning.

One solution is to create a recognizable, editable Christmas brand that can stick around for the next several years. Creating these annual holiday themes helps with graphics, sermon slides and messaging while saving the creative team time to focus more intentionally on specific details within the holiday campaign.

Instead of 12 disconnected services and announcements, a shared brand for the holidays helps tie everything together for a recognizable season. Things like consistent colors and messaging help build anticipation for what’s to come.

The hand drawn lettering was inspired by the Carpenters and gives off that whimsical, personal touch that’s warm and full of character.

Fellowship took the designs a step further by stenciling car decals with the custom hand-letter artwork to give families a way to get involved with the season. Turning your congregation loose on promotion builds recognition throughout the community that Christmas is coming and they need to be apart of it.

“My goal for this handlettered piece was to evoke the nostalgia and magical feelings that make Christmas a joyous season. The curved baseline makes the mark feel dynamic, bookending the letters helps the mark feel complete and contained, and extra flourishes feel celebratory.”
— Rachel Baker, Lead Designer
